what are 3 benefits of having a mentor?

The support and guidance a high-quality mentor provides can help shape a teen’s behaviours and attitudes in the short term and even their future life direction.

Repeatedly, studies have shown that quality mentoring partnerships have powerful positive effects on teenagers’ personal, academic, and social circumstances. While the vast majority of this research is coming out of the US, teens’ experiences in Australia are comparable.

Out of this research, three main themes arise:

  1. non-family adult mentors can help teens transition confidently into young adult
  2. mentoring can produce significant short-term personal and academic shifts in teens
  3. long-term impacts on personal, health and life outcomes can result from mentoring.

These findings will be explored in more depth in blogs to come.
